The Island
The Cayman Islands are rated the #2 dive destination in the world (right behind Great Barrier Reef!). Grand Cayman has two "Sister Islands": Little Cayman and Cayman Brac.
Cayman Brac is a small island, ten miles long by one mile wide, located about 400 miles south of Miami. The Brac, (as it's known) is very quaint. locals are very friendly and crime is virtually unheard of.
Two primary roads run the length of the island, they start joined at the west end where the airport is. From there they divert, one to the north side of a wedge shaped bluff, the other to the south. The Airport and both roads average fifteen feet above sea level, the bluff is same elevation as airport at west end but rises to 175 feet at the east end.
Getting to Cayman Brac typically requires a flight to Grand Cayman, then a rewarding short flight on to the Brac, which is much smaller, more secluded and untouched than the big island. Grand Cayman is very touristy. You will appreciate the true small island experience when you visit the Brac.
The Home and Property
Located on the secluded south side of Cayman Brac, near the east end, this beach house is the ultimate get away. Perpetual trade winds cool the home, while gentle ocean waves lull you to sleep.
The home has two bedrooms each with a queen sized bed, two bathrooms one with a tub/shower the other with shower stall. All towels and linens are included. The kitchen is fully equipped, including: a microwave oven , blender, toaster, coffee maker, water purifier, dishwasher range/oven refrigerator and chest freezer. A radio with CD player, telephone and washing machine are available for use. Seaside deck includes lounge furniture and Weber gas grille for your outdoor cooking pleasure. There are sea-grape (shade) trees with hammocks rigged for afternoon snoozing, sipping Pina-Coladas or whatever.
Please note the house is not air conditioned. There are many windows and ceiling fans located throughout the house, adding to the natural easterly breezes that usually keep the house cool and fresh. You will be breathing clean, unpolluted sea air.
Activities
Thanks to hurricane "Ivan" we now have a mostly sandy beach. Ivan also made water entry simple from the east side of our property. Great snorkeling and diving are to be found directly in front of the home. This is virgin territory, there are no marked dive sites nearby.
Cayman Brac offers two dive operators. There are 30 shore dive sites and 42 named boat dive sites on Brac also, dive boats make frequent visits to Little Cayman.
There is: Rock Climbing, Nature walks, Bird watching, Spelunking, Beach combing for Sea shells and check out the lately preserved "Splits". North East beach walk is wild and the Lighthouse Bluff walk is breath-taking, overlooking the 175 foot shear wall down to the ocean.
