Default Malaysia - Braagas will inspire you with splendid vocals

PRESS RELEASE

BRAAGAS WILL INSPIRE YOU WITH SPLENDID VOCALS AND MAKE YOU DANCE TO THE RHYTHM OF THEIR SONGS AT RAINFOREST WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL 9 -11 JULY 2010.

BraAgas is girls’ band of four which genre could be suitably called, using nowadays often-used label, “world music”, because their repertory consists of folk songs from entire Europe.

This ladies band from Prague interprets old traditional songs from all Europe; which in their repertoire you can listen songs from Pyrenean peninsula (Sephardic, Galician), songs from Provensal, Scandinavia or seculars medieval songs from central Europe. Also they like to inspire their music with influences of oriental and Balkan rhythms.

BraAgas use replicas of old instruments, which gives to their music a little exotic expression. As instance we can name cister, fiddle, shawns, chalumeaux, different knids of flutes and recorders and oriental percussion, as davul, darbuka, daf, riq and others.

There is no question, the best quality and characteristic of BraAgas for their expressive and colorful vocals and vivid rhythmic which give to their music brilliant harmonies and typical sound and also for the use of non-traditional instruments, such as cither, bagpipes, shawm, shalimo and different kinds of percussion.

BraAgas are playing together since the beginning of 2007 but all members have large experiences with this music genre from their previous projects. Since then they have played in many concerts in Czech Republic and around Europe.

In short time of their activity, they have already played many concerts The band became a winner of 2010 Andel Award (Czech Republic’s equivalent to the Grammy Award) in Best World Music! And also a winner of Česká spořitelna Colours Talents 2009 music competition and was nominated for Czech music award Anděl 2009 in world music category for its last CD called Tapas.

They have recorded two albums (No.1 in 2007 – a mix of world music and medieval songs and a year later the No.2 – Media Aetas – short playing album dedicated to medieval music).

Their youthful, animated musical vision and exotic expression have enthralled audiences throughout Europe “…this female quartet, picking up bagpipes, guitars, shawms, mandolins and tambourines, and combining their voices and energies toward a youthful, animated musical vision. While their sound rests firmly in the wider Balkan echoes of Roma music, the band also makes direct nods to the dynamic music of Al-Andalucia and Scandinavian folk-rock revivalists Garmana and Värttinä. And they put it all together with a unique Czech drum beat.”
