Nautilus Dive Adventures Launches Expert-Led Photo Trip to the Socorro Islands in April
Nautilus Dive Adventures is delighted to announce a unique photo expedition to the remote Socorro Islands this April. Taking place from between 7 – 15 April 2021, join Adobe Lightroom expert Erin Quigley and Backscatter photo pro David Serradell aboard luxury dive boat Nautilus Explorer to hone your photography skills while experiencing some of the best big animal diving on earth. Whether new to underwater photography or a seasoned pro, this expedition will enable guests to learn the secrets to getting the perfect underwater photo in a truly unique setting. Guests will have the opportunity to photograph giant pacific manta rays, ten species of shark (from fevers of scalloped hammerheads to whale sharks), bottlenose dolphins, schooling jacks, yellowfin tuna and so much more.
Erin, who is an Adobe ACE certified imaging pro, award-winning underwater photographer and video editor, and founder of GoAskErin.com; and David, passionate ocean conservationist, veterinarian and one of Backscatter’s top underwater photographers, will be on hand to assist with underwater photo techniques, offer technical support, and teach post-production workflow in Adobe Lightroom. “Historically, this is the best week of the Socorro season for diver encounters with humpback whale mommas and calves. There is no guarantee, of course, because it’s mother ocean, but over the last 20 years, we have found that second week of April is when the new mommas are most relaxed around divers before they begin the long trek north to BC and Alaska,” says Mike Lever, President of Nautilus Dive Adventures.
Located 235-miles south of Cabo San Lucas in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, Socorro, otherwise known as the Revillagigedo Archipelago, is renowned for having some of the best big animal encounters on earth. Specifically, this remote region is home to the friendliest mantas on earth. While you can see giant mantas across the world, there is nowhere else on earth where giant mantas will literally seek out interaction with divers and snorkelers. The Nautilus Explorer is a 132-foot, steel hulled dive boat custom designed with modern, spacious amenities suited for divers. The luxury liveaboard features spacious rooms and cabins, two upper-floors, a sundeck and a hot-tub deck, a main salon with dedicated PC and Mac computers and a 42inch plasma TV, and top-notch dining services. There is also a large camera table on the dive deck. Diver safety is paramount, and the vessel is certified to the same exacting international SOLAS and ISM standards as the largest cruise ship.
Guest and crew safety is Nautilus’ number one priority, and as well as having strict safety precautions in place, guests are required to have a negative PCR or antigen test within seven days of boarding their trip and a complimentary, mandatory antigen test in Cabo on the day of boarding. Nautilus Dive Adventures offers a range of photography courses to suit every level of diver, from a one-day photography workshop to the week-long Zero to Hero underwater photography course.
Nautilus Dive Adventures offers the underwater photography expedition to Socorro from $3,295 per person. Price includes eight nights onboard the Nautilus Explorer in a stateroom, five days diving, all meals, and non-alcoholic drinks. More ->

“Travel Market Now Depends on Flexibility for Customers” - LiveAboard.com Updates Website To Address Dive Traveler’s Changed Needs
Dive travel, much like the travel industry as a whole, has taken a hit as multiple destination and origin countries instated varying degrees of restrictions which disturbed many travelers' plans. LiveAboard.com has changed its website to support dive travelers' changed needs in the search and booking process of a diving liveaboard.
The changes to the website were specifically designed to provide clarity and put more emphasis on booking terms and the liveaboards that offer flexible booking terms:
The cancellation policies on LiveAboard.com are set by the liveaboards themselves and can vary from one to another. The initiative was taken following an overwhelming demand for more flexible terms since the beginning of the coronavirus restrictions. As one traveler put it: “COVID regulations are constantly changing, so the need for flexibility is more important than it has ever been. It will make or break our decision on booking a specific trip or liveaboard. It offers me peace of mind to know that the reschedule is guaranteed”.
An extensive pilot was started in April of this year in which LiveAboard.com reviewed and ranked all cancellation policies on its website. LiveAboard.com then created 3 flexibility labels in cooperation with its partners, along with a set of criteria to which liveaboards could align:
Liveaboards offering policies outside of the two flexibility labels are currently marked as Non-Flexible and will continue to accept bookings under less flexible terms than those with the Extra Flexible or Flexible labels.
The response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive as this prevents them from having to spend time scanning specific Covid cancellation terms. They can now concentrate on the more enjoyable job of finding a suitable liveaboard. For LiveAboard.com’s partners, the booking terms became a way of distinguishing themselves whilst taking away an important concern of travelers.
“The slow but steady recovery in demand has shown that divers are a resilient bunch that would like to get back to diving when safety measures and restrictions allow them to”
“We are happy to see that most of the liveaboards have welcomed the open conversation about improving their booking terms. This has essentially strengthened a lot of our partnerships. We look forward to rebuilding dive travel in 2021 together with them and once again send many divers on the underwater adventure of a lifetime!”
